Kids in Quarantine. . .(Part 2)

25 ideas for family fun and activities to do during quarantine!

Each activity has a Bible verse included with it.

Day 15:
Create an Obstacle course. Create an obstacle course together with your children. Use simple objects like the table, chairs, cushions, books, stuffed toys, etc. Show or explain the path they are supposed to follow. For Example: Walk between the two stuffed animals, sit on the chair, turn around, go under the table, roll on the pillow, jump over the toy and sit down on the sofa to win!!

Do you know that God has promised that if we pray to Him and ask for His wisdom, then He will guide our ways ?! We cannot get lost or wrong if we ask Him to guide us and give us His wisdom!

Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all of your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path.

Proverbs 3: 5-6

Day 16:
Helping out at home!

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.

Galations 5: 13

Children feel important when we include them in our activities. Sometimes allowing our children to help out creates more work for us, but it also creates an attitude of service in them. Work together to do a household chore. Encourage him while he does it. Try not to correct everything that is wrong, but to motivate him for the things he does well. A great example for small children is to help wash dishes. Take things that can’t break. Fill a bowl with soap and water so that there are lots of bubbles. Give your child a brush and / or sponge to clean the dishes with. I would suggest that you put a beach towel on the ground in case they spill water by mistake (or on purpose).

Day 17:
Busy Activities! Today I wanted to share some activities which are great for small children.

  • Organize by color.
  • Throw the pompoms down the tube.
  • Put the spaghetti in a colander.
  • Put the stickers on a line.
  • Collect pompoms or cotton with tongs.

God wants us to use our hands to give glory to Him. We can commit our hands to do beautiful things that give glory to God, or to do things that God doesn’t want.

For older children today instead of dividing colors like small children, draw and color an object for each color! A red strawberry, an orange carrot, a yellow sun, etc.

Day 18:
Balloon experiment! To do this experiment you will need:

  • Small water bottle
  • vinegar
  • baking soda
  • balloon

See what happens with this easy and fun experiment!! There is a reaction between vinegar and baking soda. The consequence is that the balloon inflates on its own.

Do you know that there is a consequence to each of our actions? Just like the balloon? What we say and what we do always has consequences – sometimes positive, sometimes negative. We see in the letter to the Romans what Paul wrote about this battle between good and evil.

In fact, the good I want, I don’t do it; but the evil that I don’t want, that I do. Now, if I do what I don’t want, it is no longer I who do it, but it is the sin that dwells in me. . . Who will free me from this body of death? Thanks be given to God through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Romans 7

It is only through Christ Jesus that we can have forgiveness for the sin that dwells in us. But we can also have the strength to choose the good!

Day 19:
Hide and seek. Play hide and seek together with the whole family. Everyone!! Another fun way to play this game is sardines. One person hides while everyone else counts. Then everyone goes to look for the hidden person. When a family member finds the hidden person, he hides together with him! Until everyone is all hidden in the same place. The last person to find everyone, has to hide the next time!

You will seek me and you will find me, because you will seek me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 29: 13

God promises us that he will not hide from us! It is always found if we seek it with all our heart!

Day 20:
Backwards mimes! For older children write a word in large letters on a sheet of paper. Make at least 15-20 cards with different words (example: cat, Superman, tree, fish, Mom, etc.). For younger children you can use printed images of people and animals, which your child can recognize. If he doesn’t understand a word, you can tell him that he only needs to imitate what you are doing.

One person guesses and everyone else has to mime the action. The guesser sits down in front of the group with their eyes closed. Mom or Dad show the others the first word. The guesser then opens his eyes and everyone must mime the action at the same time! Once he guesses the right word, then he can choose the next person to guess.

The words Mom or Dad wrote were important for the game right?! Without those words the game could not be played. Just like the words were important in making the game possible, God tells us that His Word (the Bible) is very important to us and to our lives.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 3: 16-17

The Bible teaches us how to do every good work that God has for us!

Day 21:
Look for the timer! Hide the kitchen timer. Set the timer for 5-10 minutes and hide it in the house. If your children are quiet, then they can find where you have hidden it! After finding it, you can ask them questions, for example: “Was it difficult to find the timer when you screamed?”. “What if you made a lot of noise?” “Was it easier when you were moving slowly and silently?

My soul, find rest in God alone, since my hope comes from him.

Psalm 62: 5

There are so many noises in our lives every day! TV, games, people, distractions. God asks us to rest in Him. To be silent and listen to His voice! Take some time to pray with Mom or Dad

Day 22:
Let’s put on a parade! God wants us to always be joyful !! Even when we are closed in the house or sad and even when we are angry. There is always reason for joy! ALWAYS! Think of 5 things that make you joyful. Write them on your flag to carry during the parade!
Cut out pompoms, festoons, and flags; take pots and a wooden spoon, or instruments you have at home. Dress in cheerful colors or in your best clothes. Put on a big smile, turn on the music and parade around the house! Shout for joy! Sing a song to God !! Be happy and joyful!

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again rejoice!

Philippians 4

Day 23:

GAME NIGHT!! Pull out all of your favorite board games and card games. Prepare some of your favorite snacks. Take turns picking out which game to play. Or set up a competition. Pick out a set of games, divide into teams (girls vs. boys) and keep track of everyone’s points as you play all of the various games. Or play a round of table scrabble!

Games are a super alternative to TV or screen time. It helps the family connect, creates conversation around the table, facilitates laughter and makes for the perfect evening as a family.

And there are soo many options!! If you don’t have a lot of games at home, look online! You can find printable copies of tons of games! Everything from Yatzhee to Scattergories. Or make up your own! You can play Pictionary without the actual board. Write your own words sheets of paper and use a drawing pad or a white board or a chalkboard. It’s easy if you get a little creative.

Day 24:

Dream Catchers. Create your own dream catchers with Paper plates.

Now hang it up in your window or on your door to add a little color to your room.

In peace I will both lie down and sleep;
for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Psalms 4:8

We added this verse on the back of our dream catchers, because a piece of paper can’t keep away anxiety or bad dreams, but it can remind us that we can sleep in peace because God will take care of us!

Day 25:

Show someone some kindness today.

Write a thank you letter to a teacher, nurse, doctor, or grocery worker. Draw a picture for the postman, garbage man, or custodian. Send a message to grandma or grandpa or a friend you know isn’t feeling well, or is feeling kind of lonely.

Create a beautiful work of art to mail to someone special (a bookmark for example), or take a picture of your art work with the promise to give it to your loved one the next time that you see them.

There are so many people doing wonderful things for us daily, and it is so good for our hearts to show them love and gratitude. And it is good for their hearts to feel loved and appreciated. So do something nice for someone today!
