Life is worth celebrating!
Or that is, at least, one of my hashtags. But is it still? With all the bad news currently? With the chaos of this virus ravaging the world around us?
I think so. My girls had youth group last week. They all had to make a rainbow sign with a verse to hang off their balcony or outside of their house. A reminder that everything will be okay. When I asked my youngest the verse she wanted to use, she said Psalm 100: 1-2
Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth!
The Holy Bible, Psalms 100: 1-2
Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!
When I asked her why she would choose that particular verse in a moment of difficulty and crisis such as this one, she said: “Mom I think that when we worship, we stop looking at the hard situations around God and we just look at Him. We are thankful and we praise Him instead of thinking of the bad things. We remember who He is instead of our circumstances.”
It was such a profound thought and great reminder for me as well.
The next day was her sister’s birthday. And so we chose to celebrate life! Because life is still worth celebrating! Even more so now!
I am so thankful for the family I have and for the children that God has given me. In particular for our middlest on her birthday.
We had a really fun time celebrating Rory yesterday despite the strange circumstances. I made her a cake, and we ate outside and sang happy birthday to her with presents I ordered from Amazon (we are staying home!). They played on the trampoline, we ate pasta al forno, and finished the day off watching Spiderman and sleeping in a tent in the living room, because why not?!!
But the best part was that I asked all her friends here and in the US to send her a video with birthday wishes for Aurora. I put all of the videos together and after lunch we sat and watched the sweet video together. It was great. Even though she could not be with anyone else to celebrate, she felt everyone’s love and affection and friendship. It was a super special birthday after all.
So life is often not what we would expect it to be. But it is worth celebrating. Because God is good and there is still so much to be thankful for.
Happy birthday to our 14 year old. We love you to the moon and back!
