How to Make a Candy Cake

If you’ve got an important birthday coming up, try this fun and unique idea for the birthday boy or girl!

You can use it as a gift for the birthday boy or girl, or you can do like we did, and use the candy cake as a party favor!

As the end of the party, each guest could pick out and bring home their favorite candies! It was a fun and unique thank you gift. To make your candy cake you will need a few supplies…

Supplies:

• Styrofoam cake dummies/cake rounds
• Foam paper (you can choose colours that fit your birthday theme)
• Ribbon to seal the edges
• Hot glue gun
• Double sided tape
• Lots of individually packaged candy (the quantity that you will need depends on the size of candy packages that you buy).
• Make sure to get a few larger lollipops to decorate the top of the cake!

Begin by cutting out strips of foam paper and circles of foam paper to fit each cake round. Measure the length around the round and the diameter to get a precise fit.

Use double sided tape to stick the foam paper to your dummies. Make foam round to cover both the top and the bottom of each dummy cake. Use a hot glue gun to glue the three rounds together.

Add ribbon to finish the rounds. Attach with a hot glue gun.I left part of the ribbon sticking up over the edge of the round to help hold in the candy packages.

Begin attaching your candy! I used double sided tape to attach most of the candies or stuck them directly into the cake dummy for lollipops. I used a hot glue gun only on the packages that were extra heavy to keep them from falling off, and I only used a drop at the top and one at the bottom, to prevent the packaging from being destroyed when it was removed from the cake

On your top layer you can pile on some candy. Smaller lollipops are great to create a border and larger ones of different sizes are great for a cake topper.

That’s it! Place your candy cake on display on a cake stand so you can take photos during the party.

I also baked other desserts, such as cupcakes, cookies, Rice Krispie treats and fruit, so that everyone had something for dessert right away, and a favor to take home later!
